Artist Statement:

The relationship between light and shadow has always been an important part of my painting. Capturing the shape of a shadow or the subtle change in a tone can bring an image to life. Negative space and the changes created by light are what form the composition. Reflections are another aspect of this relationship and can be found throughout nature and in everyday objects. My eye has always been drawn to the distorted or nearly mirror-like effect of the optical illusions.

Artist Statement:

The Next Chapter is about my journey as a painter. I've learned over the past several years that I find joy in painting figurative works and portraits. My hope is to tell a story and evoke emotion, while the viewer finds their own meaning in each piece. I love capturing the natural world around me while focusing on light and bringing a sense of place to life onto the canvas. I also enjoy working with graphite, charcoal, and watercolor, and creating landscapes in places that resonate with me such as Downeast Maine, Oregon, and the South Shore.

Show Statement:

My pastel paintings represent a dialogue between my observed world and my own imagination. Using my background in graphic design, photography and illustration, I alter each composition to achieve my ultimate artistic intent: a visual narrative of contrast, drama and emotion. Each painting is a window into my world, precisely as I see it.
