In this studio lab presentation, we will focus on encaustic as a remarkable painting medium. Following a historic overview of encaustic, you will be introduced to current approaches to studio setup, tools and health and safety. Often encaustic is looked to for its exceptional mixed media, printmaking, photography transfer, sculpting, or casting qualities - which are undeniable. However in this presentation, the focus will be on the opulence of bees wax encaustic paint. Encaustic’s unique methods of how the paint is applied will be featured, the importance of heat and encaustic medium for mixing of color, how it is fused with heat for adhesion, extended out, and textured. Artists working in any painting media will find this workshop an exciting opportunity to grow their visual vocabulary with wax.
