Bands of Blue by Kathryn Corcoran

North River Arts Society is proud to present "Bands of Blue" by Kathryn Corcoran, on display at the Ventress Memorial Library February 24 - April 13.

About the Artist: I am a Boston-born artist who was first introduced to drawing by my father. He liked to use yellow-lined legal pads to write down his work ideas and adorned the margins with amazing doodles. I was in awe of his ability to create this way, and spent a lot of time watching him draw characters and scenes. This is likely what sparked my interest in drawing. I filled hundreds of doodle pads with drawings of people and boats.  Drawing seemed to calm my overly-anxious mind. 

As a student at Suffolk University, I was introduced to Painting and Photography classes, where I was able to explore different creative outlets.  I loved finding subjects for my photographs and developing them in the dark room at school. After college I obtained my Design Certificate from The New England School of Art & Design in Boston and worked as a commercial interior designer for eighteen years. During this time, I shared an art studio in South Boston with a couple of my friends, and exbibited my paintings at local coffee shops and restaurants. Sadly, when the building housing our art studio was sold, my painting fell to the wayside. 

The past couple of years, I found myself longing to paint more and began taking as many classes and workshops as I could. Taking these classes has kept me consistent and helped me develop my painting ability even more. Living on the New England coast, I am bombarded with beauty and inspired to paint what I see every day. I love this new stage of my life and am truly enjoying being surrounded by amazing Artists and their beautiful Artwork.

Kathryn Corcoran lives in Quincy and Harwichport Massachusetts. She is certified Yoga Instructor and Reiki Practitioner.
